Icicle Canyon Super Activity

This year I helped plan and lead the priests quorum super activity. We headed up to Leavenworth, WA and found a camp site in Icicle Canyon.

Day one was getting there and a 7 mile hike up the canyon along Icicle Creek. Weather forecast had been threatening 100+ degree weather, but a breeze kept temps cooler. A few dips in the creek helped too.

Day two was rock climbing. We stayed in the massive canyon and went to a wall called Playground Point. Routes ranged from 5.6 to 5.8, which was a great challenge for the boys. That evening we got drenched by a thunderstorm that rolled through the canyon.

Day three was white water rafting on the Winatchee river. To call it "white water" is generous, as this was the flattest river I've ever run. There was nothing above a class 2, and the biggest challenge of the day was getting unstuck from the numerous river rocks we hit on the super-low river. We did have fun with inter- and intra- raft water fights as we drifted lazily along the river. One moment of adventure came when our raft lodged on a rock above a small rapid. Half of the raft was over the rapid, the other half stuck on the rock. A second raft collided with us, breaking us free from the rock, but sending two of their unsuspecting rafters flying through the air and into the drink. We were able to pull both of them from the rapids and into our raft. Later we rendezvoused with their raft and returned them. For our efforts and kindness, they stole our water bucket as they departed.
