This year the Scouts have been working towards a 50 mile hike in the Goat Rocks wilderness. To prepare them, I've laid-out a 6 month program of backpacking trips with increasing difficulty. This weekend was our first steep backpacking day hike. Blanca Lake is about 4,000 total vertical feet, since you descend (and must regain) 700 feet tot eh lake from the high point.
