Just when we think Sahara is getting into some type of sleep pattern, she proves us wrong and re-establishes her dominance in the tribe. Sahara's "awake and alert" times have progressively gotten longer. They last a couple hours or more now. During the day this is fine, but at night it's a stake through the heart of all that's restful.
In the last week or so, Sahara's gone through the night without having any of these extended awake periods. She wakes up to eat, then goes right back down again. Such trends give us hope and make us feel that maybe, just maybe, the sleep fairy will throw us a bone.
So it was with deep chagrin and the darkest despair that I noticed Sahara's bright-eyed "what are we gonna do now, daddy?" look at 3:00am last night as I changed her diaper. Oh sure, we went through the motions of trying to get her to sleep, but it was a faithless exercise in futility. The boss wants what the boss wants. Perhaps she likes to shake things up every now and again to keep the help on their toes.
In any case, if you happen to hear a distant bump in the night, rest assured that it's Sahara giving us the proverbial tap on the shoulder. Either that or me running into the wall in the dark.
