We checked out Lakedale resort and a few others while there, so that next time we'll have a better idea where we want to go. Saturday morning we drove up to Roche Harbor, which was beautiful and a lot more sleepy and serene than Friday Harbor. It looks like a good place to bring a book and unwind as time slips silently into the background.
From Roche harbor we went to Lime Kiln State Park to look for orcas. No luck there, but we did get some commanding views of the Haro strait between the San Juans and Canada.
My favorite part of the island was the middle. The valleys are filled with fields and well-kept family farms right out of a story book. It reminded me of simpler times growing up in the farm country of Idaho. The farms along with the complete lack of man-made background noise made this trip for me.
